  15. Some extremely valid information and associated tips there for anyone unsure about the role of social media for their circumstances. I tend to agree that many people do not understand or appreciate the importance of branding to establish and build your identity and values with your readers, followers and clients. Social media really has such an important role to assist here and your mention of products like hootsuite and buffer really help to manage your social media accounts effectively.

  22. Some excellent points here that recognise the increasing trend for people not to read these days and how best to present yourself in an attractive, practical and credible way. It is so important to keep up with the changing expectations of the market you are appealing to. Therefore if you are to be competitive, you must be open, dynamic and flexible – changing in line with the needs and wants of your clients over time.

    Interesting article Sushmita. Yes, I am on the networks (like everyone else).

    And as you mentioned earlier, I prefer to focus on building up a strong presence on one primary medium (twitter), then branch out from there. Thus far, I have to tell you that I have been very pleased with my results. Yes, they definitely could improve, but that will come in time – I hope.

    That’s how I attack it.

  40. Visual content is definitely the future! I noticed over the past few years that due to our creative and attractive content, we were getting many people interested in our product and also increased the number of followers… Seeing what our competitors were up to helped a lot as well as we could learn from it and fill the gap that’s missing on social media to satisfy people.

    The other point I was going to make is about video marketing. I did some experiments last year and realised that engagement rate on Facebook had dropped from just posting nice pictures followed by a nice caption, once we I started creating some videos representing our company culture or what our product was about – the numbers of followers and engagement increased and so did the traffic to our site! I most definitely recommend videos !

  41. Wow thanks for all the tips and list of influencers! I’ve been using Twitter and Instagram so far to find influential people – Was aware of KLOUT but never really used it! Had no idea there was a score method for each influencer! That might be very useful actually as to see if the influencer is worth the hassle! I’ve spent so much time observing influencer’s engagement, connecting with them on a daily basis as to win their trust and loyalty. It’s quite time consuming for little result! I agree it’s all about finding the right people for your product who will know how to market it! I’d love to learn more about influencer marketing, any more articles or tips from you Carmen?   42. Great tips! I’ve learned to listen to our audience before creating content – Otherwise it goes to waste. Also what I think it’s great is actually ask our audience what they would like to see more on social – Like send out a survey, connect with them and get to know them. Feedback is always great and at least you know what they want to read etc. Maura.

  43. Hi Carmen! Another great article shared! Thanks. People who are not familiar with Social Media think they can learn and do it over night. When I tell my friends about being a Social Media manager – they think it’s a joke as they don’t see value or think it’s just about posting pictures. They forget there’s so much to it, analytics, data, audience, influencers and creative campaigns etc. Anyway just wanted to share some of my experience, and over the years I’ve been told off many times for being myself on social media – tried to be professional and corporate until I realized that our audiences always felt more connected to the real me than to someone I pretended to be. We are all human, and it’s great for audiences to recognize that there’s a human behind every social media channel.

I’m going through all your blog posts – really like them 🙂 Back to your post here, Ive done experiments with Facebook live for our social media channels – but never explored VR or chatbots. Read the other article on chatbots but I’d rather have a human being to communicate to our customers etc. Have you tried it yourself? I can imagine it takes a lot of your workload and availability for each customer is higher – just wondering how customers / followers react to it? How do they feel about a chatbots? Have you done a survey to get insights? I might actually try this out! Let me know.

      The only chatbot I tried is Amazon’s Alexa and I love it 🙂 So much easier to look for info and great to receive recommendations of what you may like based on your previous choices. She was spot on so far. I am sure in a couple of years we will see more and more.

  45. Loving the fact that people like their own Facebook posts 😀 That just made my day!
    Just a question on abandoning your social accounts – What If we noticed that there’s no engagement or that most of our loyal followers / customers are on one channel already? I think it’s quite hard to get attraction through Facebook – we’re a marketing agency and noticed a lack in engagement when sharing industry related articles or blog posts. Only behind the scenes pictures seem to get engagement. Any tips? Thanks

    This thing is expensive and you can only buy it as a subscription, not a one time purchase. I don’t use Adobe products for the same reason. It’s a stupid model.

      Thank you for your comment. This was a guest post and the author likes BeLive.Tv. She is using and is happy with it. I checked their website and you can use it for free for up to 16 broadcasts per month. I know the features are limited but if you want more out of it you pay more. On the other hand, this business model works and there are many membership websites that provide various products or services for a monthly subscription. I personally like this model but again it’s my personal opinion like yours is your personal opinion. I wouldn’t call it stupid though…

    I agree with David here that you should make the most of the content you have already! Content repurposing is a very effective way of getting more eyeballs on your website!
